discover something new today

I’ve recently finished reading “My Booky Wook” by Russell Brand. Not being a massive Brand fan - his humour can err on the side of vulgar and distasteful in my opinion  -  I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea. However, following a recommendation, I read the sample and was intrigued enough to buy the book. It was certainly as vulgar as I might have expected, but nonetheless amusing in parts, and in many ways interesting - insofar as his life as a junkie, comedian, and sex addict is so far removed from mine. What I was most surprised by, and maybe even impressed by, was that the book was not as silly as its title might suggest. Through telling his life story, Brand often made some rather intelligent and insightful reflections on himself, other people, and the world at large… at least in the few chapters which seemed to have had his full attention (some seemed a little uninspired and just written for the sake of being written).

Still, despite secretly rather enjoying reading “My Booky Wook”, I am glad I had a kindle to read it on. Whilst I would happily recommend it - just maybe not to the parents - I’m not sure I would want to be seen reading it in public. Maybe I need to take a leaf out of Brand’s book and learn to revel in doing things which would shock those around me - even if it’s just being seen reading something slightly distasteful for now!
